Personalized Nutritional Care that Challenges, Heals, and Invigorates

Live Nourished Today was founded on the simple yet radical idea that people can establish and maintain a healthy relationship with food and eating despite the onslaught of toxic messaging we constantly receive through society and culture. Our work seeks to deprogram years of conflicting messaging that often leads to shame, fear, and insecurity surrounding food choices and wellbeing. We help clients to restructure their negative perceptions of food by dismantling the use of harmful value judgments, creating clear nutritional guidelines based on personal needs, and ultimately, acknowledging that health and wellness come in various shapes and sizes.

At Live Nourished today, We treat clients as nuanced and complex individuals with their own unique histories surrounding food, nutrition, and body image. We also understand that each client seeks services for specific reasons, which is why I vehemently reject the idea of a “one size fits all” approach to treating those struggling with nutrition. Rather, We seek to liberate clients from the confines of diet culture by helping them reframe how they perceive nutrition and furthermore, assist in dispelling harmful myths and mistruths about food designed to perpetuate shame and fear. Our ultimate goal is to show clients that a healthy relationship with food is not only possible but sustainable. Live Nourished Today helps clients find prolonged satisfaction and contentment through healthy, balanced nutrition.

Client Testimonals

I've had the pleasure of working with Merisa for about 5 weeks now and I am very satisfied with the services and results so far. My biggest issues were my general relationship with food and how I viewed food. While it's still a work in progress, I have been able to totally transform how I view food and how I eat through intuitive eating. I was so surprised when I heard I could eat chips on my meal plan! And as an added bonus I have been losing about a pound a week. Definitely recommend!

At age 55, I was diagnosed with diabetes and my A1C levels were 8.9, I was eating my life away. I was scared with the diagnosis of diabetes but Merisa really helped me on my journey. I couldn’t have done it without her. I’m down 20 pounds in only 7 months, my A1C levels are down to 6.1, and I have a consistent walking routine. I’m educated on understanding my hunger cues, reading labels, choosing healthier options, snacking and more. I might even be able to come off the diabetes medication with the help of my dietitian, Merisa.. Not only do I feel healthier, I feel amazing, I’m not scared anymore and I’m learning every day to live a healthier, sustainable lifestyle.

Live Nourished Today has really changed my life. Before meeting Merisa, I tried every diet out there. I would lose weight and then gain it back. Merisa has taught me how to lose weight while still enjoying all the food I love. She had taught me that this is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. I lost a total of 40 pounds and have kept it off for 2 years now!! I highly recommend Merisa if you're looking to lose weight. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Merisa's approach of intuitive eating has made me learn so much about the food I consume and how it makes me feel. Meeting with Merisa has reminded me that while the goal is still losing weight, it's the changes in one's own lifestyle that 's more important and that will result in maintaining that weight loss. Also, not to mention she's so understanding that life happens, and even if "mess up" it's okay and we get back on track the next day. She's very supportive of one's journey and I can tell she really cares about her clients' successes.

I highly recommend Merisa for weight loss services. She really goes the extra mile to help support her clients. She responds to all my emails pretty quickly and is very supportive;especially when I'm struggling. I'm currently down 30 pounds and plan on losing another 20!

.

I highly recommend Merisa as she is very helpful and knowledgeable in her craft. The food she suggests is either personally tried by her or clients of her's. She is understanding how the real world affects our choices and teaches you how to improve your meal options while answering any questions you may have along the way.

Healing Your Relationship with Food by Challenging the Narratives of Diet Culture

Healing Your Relationship with Food by Challenging the Narratives of Diet Culture

In the United States alone, billions of dollars are spent each year on diet and diet culture advertising. Supplemented by constant bombardments of food advertising, it comes as no surprise that many people have skewed relationships and perceptions of nutrition and how it functions in daily life. Furthermore, attitudes regarding food are often established in an individual’s formative years when parents and guardians may unintentionally reinforce harmful narratives about food. Thus, from a young age, many people grow up labeling food as either “good” or “bad”. This sort of categorization is dangerous in itself, and something I aim to avoid entirely at Live Nourished Today.

Unfortunately, dieting that is restrictive and extreme in nature is usually hailed as a plausible solution for people looking to quickly change or alter their physical appearance. However, not only does research show that crash diets are largely ineffective, but they also fail to address any underlying issues that may contribute to the individual’s difficult relationship with food. As a result, my practice exists to help those I serve achieve continuous peace and satisfaction regarding their daily intake and interactions with food. Rather than focus on vanity and appearance, I focus on helping clients cultivate their sense of holistic wellness.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Eating Disorder Informed- Our Direct yet Sensitive Approach.

At Live Nourished Today, we recognize that many of my clients are struggling, or have struggled with an eating disorder or disordered eating. By nature, eating disorders thrive on secrecy and shame, which is why we approach those who are struggling with compassion, patience, and clarity.

Frankly, an eating disorder will often time precipitate a lifelong struggle with healthy eating and nutrition. However, a lifelong struggle by no means indicates that a person cannot ultimately find peace and balance when it comes to their relationship with food. Nor does it indicate that a person will always feel actively conflicted in how they approach food. All it means is that relationships often require continuous work and routine maintenance to prosper and thrive. With that said, we strongly believe that recovery is possible for everyone, and therefore have tailored my approach to include those who are actively struggling with disordered eating.

We focus on meeting the client where they are at, creating small and attainable goals that focus on establishing trust in one’s body and the development of internal self-esteem. We also incorporate the teaching of eating related coping skills and strategies to help further put safeguards in place against potentially detrimental habits.

By virtue, recovery is non-linear and understandably imperfect. Our approach is therefore rooted in helping clients build momentum from small victories and milestones. We never expect perfection during any portion of the process. As individuals who have struggled with disordered eating, we explicitly understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help and navigate the initial aspects of the journey. With that said, we offer a compassionate yet direct approach, that helps clients identify the root of their disorder, offering non-judgmental, personalized guidance each step of the way.

All Food Fits, Intuitive Eating, and a Focus on Overall Wellbeing

We believe that personalized care is the best way to approach any nutrition program as each of us varies so drastically in terms of what we need to succeed. Nevertheless, there are certain approaches that we believe are particularly effective in procuring long-term results and contentment. Our practice utilizes the following techniques:

What you do matters

Our diet-crazed society relies on the labeling of foods as either “good” or “bad”. All food fits merely suggests that all food can be incorporated into a healthy diet where mindfulness and moderation are present.

Intuitive Eating

Intuitive eating teaches clients to identify their personal hunger cues. In the process, intuitive eating teaches clients to be mindful of the messages their body sends and helps them develop trust in their own intuition.

Self-Care

Everyone’s need and capacity for self-care varies based on numerous factors. As a part of our work together, we will develop a game plan that ensures your body is receiving the proper attention it needs to maintain base homeostasis.

Eating Disorder Treatment

My services can help those struggling with binge eating disorder, anorexia, ARFID, and bulimia. As always, safety is a top priority and sometimes an extra level of care is recommended/required. If I believe you may benefit from a heightened level of treatment, I am happy to provide resources and referrals that give you the best chance of success.

Now Offering Sports Nutrition!

Who Can Utilize Our Services?

- We believe that proper nutritional care should be accessible to clients of all backgrounds, as eating disorders do not discriminate. Our practice works with chronic dieters, those suffering from eating disorders, or clients who simply want to learn how to manage their nutrition more effectively.

Pricing is based on session work or packages, and also a sliding scale for clients who are unable to remit payment fully. We also provide resources for other (or additional) therapy options as we see fit. We provide nutrition counseling and education for ages 15+ and can treat couples/relationships and family units.

Have questions? That’s what we're here for. We're always here to answer any questions or concerns you have free of charge. The path to healing often begins with finding the right treatment provider for you. Whether you end up at Live Nourished or pursue another option, we're here to help put you on the pathway to success.
